But can chemical-free deodorants really keep you from smelling on a hot summer day? Here, we put four natural products to the test, with varying results:
1. Fats and the Moon Deodorant Cream
This hand-made-to-order cream has a pleasant scent of coconut oil, bergamot, sage, and grapefruit, with notes of spicy black pepper that make us wish it came in perfume form as well (hint hint). The organic formula worked hard to control any unpleasant smells from the morning, well into the evening. Bonus: it didn’t rub off whatsoever on my black shirt. A little goes a long way, and the jar isn’t slight, so it’s sure to last and last.
2. Meow Meow Tweet Tweet Deodorant Cream
This deodorant got put to the ultimate test in our quest for the all-natural deodorant grail: If 13 hours of sun doesn’t prove it’s brilliance, we don’t know what will. Virgin coconut oil and baking soda inhibit bacteria, while shea butter keeps irritation at bay. Suffice to say, this certified organic formula will continue to have a slot in our all-natural arsenal.
3. Lavanila the Healthy Deodorant
Ladies looking for an all-natural deodorant that
smells floral and feminine (not at all earthy like so many other natural versions do), look no further than this solid stick formula. It’s fresh, moisturizing, rich in antioxidants and beta glucan technology that strengthen the skin while nourishing. While using this, no B.O. ever broken through. If you are a woman who prefers a drugstore solid deodorant like Dove, this is your all-natural jam.
4. Isa’s Restoratives Fir Needle & Sage Unisex Herbal Deodorant
We love this company and their all-natural gems. That being said, this deodorant doesn't seem to work well with some particular body chemistry and turns into (sorry in advance) something that smells like manicotti. In the bottle it smells divine, astringent and peppery, but when put in contact with some types of skin, in very little time it turns into something that is better left on the table. We’re sure it works on others.
Have you already tried some of those gems? What's your experience with it? Just tell us in the comments below and share your wisdom with others.
